Reclining Sounds by Ayesha

Spanning two decades of nostalgia, Ayesha’s selection weaves together trip-hop classics, experimental hip-hop, and deeply personal favorites that trace her journey from India and the U.S. to New York, reflecting a lifelong love of immersive listening and the evolving influences behind her latest musical explorations.

What inspired this track selection

These are songs I genuinely enjoy reclining to. But this playlist is also 2 decades of nostalgia:

  • Memories of lying on carpets and listening to music with friends over the years
  • A time before streaming when making simple itunes playlists was sexy and fun, when I was buying a lot of experimental hip hop and LA beat scene stuff
  • Trip hop classics that I grew up to as a kid living between India and the USA
  • Songs that impacted me after moving to New York in 2018

Who’s track selection would you be most curious to see and why ?

In the context of this conversation probably Talvin Singh because of his impact on 90s - 00s downtempo, trip hop, dnb —he defined an era of deeply relaxing music that hit many living rooms I’m sure :)

Any new projects you’d like to talk about ?

It feels like I’m mostly back to the drawing board with music this year. That means I’m trying to expand my range a bit as a producer. It’s been exciting to explore more acid and electro territory; curious to see how it dialogs with my love of percussion and groove (or doesn’t). I just put out a single called Doubt Destroyer on Bandcamp last month — maybe you’ll hear these newer intentions in the track :)
